So for those who don't know, I work for Alder Home Security. I go door to door, and offer people a home security System. A Salesman basically. If you knew me, you'd know that my previous profession was completely opposite of what this job entails. On top of that, I've always had a negative connotation on commission work. Mainly because my father and brother where Salesman for a plumbing supply company in New York, and I never liked the inconsistency of income. But God works in amazing, weird ways to say the least.
In this job, you get a lot of rejection, people looking at what you are doing, and just straight judging me before I say anything. I get it, people don't like being bothered and being sold something. Like "who is this fool knocking on my door unannounced to bother my day?!?!?!"I will say the toughest part of this job is not as much physical, as it is more mental. I'm descent at just brushing off the rejection, and negative stuff people do to me, Enter the day in Lynchburg VA.
This is Paullete, she is just part of this testimony of Prayer . Here's how the story goes.
My first door I knocked, I had a really nice christian couple who were super nice. Since my area I was working was next to Liberty University, you had a lot of believers in the area. So as I was talking to this guy, he sounded interested. His name was Mr Austin. His wife is named Lindsay, and his beautiful blue eyed son is named, get this, Cannan. The Promise land. WOW...I was so close to getting the sale with Mr Austin, but they didn't go with it. But even with every potential sale, I felt like I did everything the Lord wanted me to do. After walking away from this sale, I was drained emotionally. The next couple doors I knocked, I just kept getting no's, and felt really deflated mentally. Mind you, I've been playing "see a victory" by elevation worship, on a loop. So I've tried to keep a Holy Mindset all day. But it was tough. I remember knocking a door, getting a quick no, and I remember saying to the Lord, "I need you Lord. I'm done." Then I remember the lord pulling my heart through feeling. I felt the need to worship. To just look to Him, and turn my gaze not upon work, but upon Him. I did that for five minutes, as I walked down the streets on Lynchburg. I even remember looking at this house in front of me, still feeling really discouraged. But I did anyway. Long story short, I ended up closing that deal. It wasn't a clear laydown, but the Lord was with me, and He made a way.
Psalm 145: 18-20 NKJV
8 The Lordis near to all who call upon Him,
To all who call upon Him in truth.
19 He will fulfill the desire of those who fear Him;
He also will hear their cry and save them.
20 The Lord preserves all who love Him,
But all the wicked He will destroy.
I did childrens ministry for about a year, and everytime we would pray, I would ask them
Does anyone know what pray is?
some would say really good answers, and I would agree, but I simplified it for them.
Because as Kids, or adults, we need to simplify things.
"Prayer is dialogue with God"
Not only did he just hear my cry to Him, but He Answered. Even though through worship, I still wasn't feeling restored.
Aren't you glad we Serve a LIVING God who not only hears us, but responds? It's not always how we want, but He responds.
side note (think about all the other religions that don't offer this..just Crazy!)
Prayer is powerful. When we realize we are weak, trapped, unworthy, not full of purpose, He intervenes.
He is Perfect in our weakness
2 Corinthians 12:9 (ESV)
9 But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
1 Corinthians 1:28-30 (ESV)
28 God chose what is low and despised in the world, even things that are not, to bring to nothing things that are,29 so that no human being[d] might boast in the presence of God.30 And because of him[e] you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, righteousness and sanctification and redemption
Amen!
I can't believe it's been over 3 years when this happened, I remember the sale slightly. It was very unique and different then most other processes of closing a deal. Reading this post just encourages me, because I know Gods timing is perfect. I was just speaking to someone about the season when I did childrens ministry, and how much I loved it. The fact that parents, were allowing me, to entrust them with such an important part of a human beings life. Their spirtual side. Knowing that people change from the inside out, and they have allowed me to give them access to their dreams and partner with them and their stuff. Such a highlight of my life. …
